Hey - thanks Ken.. What do
Hey - thanks Ken.. What practice you remember of the piece of work prospects of someone with 3 years piece of work feel as an animator in Vegas sized shows, plus the iAnimate workshop courses? Thanks!
hello,
I am going to major in studio fine art a Public University and I want to get into the animation manufacture. Tin can I get into the industry with only fine fine art skills?(without an animation caste.) Thank you.:)
What practise you guys think about UC Davis's studio art program? That's where I am going to go.
. Can I get into the manufacture with but fine art skills?(without an animation caste.)
Yes. (is there an repeat in here ? ;) )
All the great animators from the "Golden Age" (of hand-drawn animation) were either newspaper cartoonists, cocky-taught, or attended classical art schools like Chouinard or Art Pupil's League. No ane had an animation degree. Well-nigh of the ones who we actually recall of as the Greats were trained as illustrators or fine artists, but the Depression era pushed a lot of those guys into animation considering that'due south where they could make a living.
I teach at a schoolhouse which will give y'all a degree in Blitheness (Traditional hand-drawn or CG, whichever your accent is) , simply the program emphasizes classes in beefcake, effigy cartoon, perspective, design , etc. in addition to animation. Those classical art skills will utilize whether you do hand-drawn or CG blitheness.
So, I mention that to emphasize I'm not "anti-school" or "anti-degree" , but this provocative essay posted on the ASIFA Blitheness Archive is worth your consideration:
How To Pick An Blitheness School
Part of that commodity says:
Q: How Practise you Option an Animation School?
"Here's the surprising respond... Yous don't! Schools that specialize in blitheness as a merchandise do a lousy job of preparing you lot for a career in animation. While y'all're a student, you should focus on your cadre art skills- drawing, blueprint, composition and color. Expect for a schoolhouse that can give yous a solid classical art background. Avoid ones that only teach reckoner programs. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to learn Maya.
Carlo Vinci was one of the greatest animators who ever lived, but he never took a form in blitheness. Instead, he spent three years of intense study to learn to be an artist. With the experience he gained at the National Academy of Design, he was able to learn animation and advance quickly on the task. It was the same for smashing animators like Marc Davis, Chuck Jones and Frank Thomas who studied at Chouinard on the West declension."
Reminds me of someone talking about firefighters schoolhouse. On this school they don't teach yous to be a firefighter, but, instead, everything yous demand to become a firefighter. To graduate as a firefighter you have to practice the actual work for a certain amount of fourth dimension (six months, I believe) as an efficient firefighter.
I guess animation schools shouldn't permit yous animate, but rather set up you for a carreer as a professional animator, permit you to finetune your bones skills, IOW all the things you have no fourth dimension for in one case yous piece of work as an animator.
I think Academy is more essential then it was earlier, as it gives you lot access to facilities and enebles yous to be more applyable to companies as they allmost seem to look that you know all the basic programs inside out. the near inportant thing for me about university was that information technology allowed me to focus on animation, the ten,000 give-and-take essay was a pain though.
I'll throw my 'yes' into the pile every bit well. That doesn't necessarily mean that uni and college are completely useless. They're most likely dandy places to network and concentrate on developing your skills.
I'thou self-taught in Flash and I actually taught it at two unlike schools without a teaching degree so it'south really nigh talent and opportunity. Having a degree on your resume will help y'all get noticed, but a thousand degrees mean null if you lack the necessary skills.
Wow! The communication they gave you is a lot more honest than the advice I got on the discipline. I'm particularly glad ASIFA's seeing the lite. I like them.
I accept a degree from VFS (come across the banner ads all over this site) and it means Nothing. I can't fifty-fifty get an interview at the studios where my former teachers piece of work!
All everyone cares well-nigh is your reel/portfolio. Become the Preston Blair and Richard Williams books on the subject. Those taught me more almost animation than that damn $27,000 course!! Definitely learn to employ Flash. That's a real job skill. I'm learning Toon Blast Studio 4 right now. It's a bit of a steep learning curve at first, but information technology uses a lot of classical blitheness theory, and I like the program a lot.
Do Non, under whatever circumstances, go in debt to learn animation. In that location's a lot of outsourcing, and a lot of corporate back-stabbing in the industry correct now. In businessman's lingo, I'd say, "Information technology is what it is." Just you don't desire to have to depend on that industry to pay off some huge student loan.
wish to get an animator, also!
Hi everyone. I read some of the posts and I would accept to agree with everyone. I suppose it looks good to take the degree when seeking employment in the meduim, but then if you don`t have the talent to breathing, what the heck is the degree for?
I say if you remember you have what it takes, go for it! Usually friends that don`t draw are skillful critics, testify and so your piece of work, if they think yous are great so thats all you lot need to hear and just work on an excellent portfolio and a good demo reel and go job hunting. I wish you the best of luck, keep u.s. informed! :D

Of course not, to get a job
Of class non, to go a chore in the industry, you lot merely have to make sure that your work is up to par with the animations that you encounter in the movies that you sentry or video games that you play that are out in the market place right now. But at the same time y'all have to think about your contest. What if a visitor interviewed you lot and another candidate. Permit's say that both of your works are on the aforementioned level only you lot don't have a degree and the competitor does, who do you remember the visitor will rent?
